An international network expected that Yemen will continue to remain at the top of the list of countries most in need of humanitarian aid until May of next year.

The Famine Early Warning System Network ( FEWS NET ) reported in its November report on the expected needs for emergency food assistance in the countries covered by the network: “Yemen is expected to rank second among the 31 countries covered by the network in terms of the average number of people in need of urgent humanitarian food assistance by May 2025, after Sudan, followed by Ethiopia, the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Nigeria.”

The report added that the number of Yemenis who will be in dire need of humanitarian food aid next May will remain at around 18 million people, which means that about 55% of the population will need this aid in order to survive.

The network explained that the continuation of poor economic conditions across the country will lead to widespread food insecurity at the crisis level, the third phase of the Integrated Phase Classification of Food Insecurity ( IPC 3 ).

The report confirmed that if the World Food Programme continues to halt food aid distribution in many governorates, including the governorates under Houthi control in the north of the country, the possibility of an emergency (Phase 4 of the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification) is likely by next May.

She pointed out that if the damage to the infrastructure of the Houthi-controlled ports in Hodeidah, as a result of the Israeli raids, causes a decrease in food or fuel imports, the number of families suffering from emergencies in those areas will increase.
