The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) has returned 153 Somali refugees in Yemen by sea to the port of Berbera, as part of the voluntary return programme.

“153 Somali refugees voluntarily returned home last night through UNHCR’s voluntary repatriation programme,” said Marine Dean Kajdomkaj, UNHCR Representative in Yemen.

He explained in a post on the X platform that the trip was supported by the Somali embassy and the Yemeni authorities.

He added that the refugees received medical screening, documentation, transportation and financial support, and that reintegration assistance awaits them in Somalia.

The Commission is scheduled to operate 11 voluntary return flights for refugees in Yemen during the remainder of this year.
