The president of the American cybersecurity company CrowdStrike apologized for the technical glitch that disrupted airports, hospitals, media outlets and banks around the world today, Friday, after it turned out to be due to a flaw in updating one of the company's software for Windows users.
The company's president, George Kurtz, wrote on the X and LinkedIn platforms, saying, "CrowdStrike is actively working with customers affected by a vulnerability discovered in a single content update for Windows users."
He added that "it is not a security incident or a cyber attack," stressing that "the problem has been identified, isolated, and a correction has been published."
In other statements he made to the American "NBC" network, Kurtz expressed his company's deep regret "for the effects it caused to customers."
How did the problem occur?
Kurtz stated that a "negative interaction" occurred between the aforementioned update and the Windows operating system from Microsoft, which led to the failure of computers around the world.
He explained that correcting the problem in some systems may take some time, and they will not return to work automatically.
For its part, Microsoft posted on its website that “the root cause of the problem has been corrected, and many Microsoft 365 applications and services have regained full functionality.”
The American technology giant added: “We are monitoring this closely to ensure that we are moving towards a full recovery.”
Extensive malfunctions
The problem led to the disruption of health systems and flights around the world. Waiting queues formed at many airports, and institutions, companies and television channels reported malfunctions or disturbances.
And earlier; The Federal Aviation Administration in the United States confirmed that major American airlines have suspended their flights due to a "technical problem."
Turkish Airlines also announced that it faced problems in its reservation, passenger registration, and ticket issuance systems due to a global technical defect.
The authorities in Spain said that all of the country's airports faced technical problems.
There were disturbances in the activities of the London Stock Exchange, the British Sky News channel stopped broadcasting live, and media outlets, banks and telecommunications companies in Australia were also disrupted.
