Aden Electricity warns of imminent shutdown of power plants due to fuel shortage

The General Electricity Corporation in the interim capital, Aden (southern Yemen), warned of an imminent shutdown of most power plants, due to the depletion of crude oil and diesel.

The corporation said in a clarifying statement published by its media center on Sunday that "the increase in the hours of power outages compared to the hours of operation is due to the gradual shutdown of the generating stations due to the depletion of diesel fuel, and the lack of any emergency quantities to ensure their continuity until the ship's scheduled arrival date of August 20."

She added that the company operating the President's Station informed her that the station would stop working within the coming hours, following the cessation of crude oil supplies by Safer Company for more than five days.

The Corporation stated that it had addressed all relevant authorities to intervene and provide quantities of fuel that would contribute to ensuring the continuity of the service, but unfortunately there was no response.

She pointed out that the fuel shortage and lack of immediate response "will lead to the shutdown of all diesel generating stations and the shutdown of the President's station that operates on crude oil within the coming hours, while the Al-Haswa and Al-Mansoura stations will remain in service, in addition to the solar station during the daytime."

The Corporation reiterated its appeal to the Presidential Leadership Council and the Prime Minister’s Office to urgently intervene and secure fuel to maintain the relative stability of the service that the capital, Aden, has witnessed over the past few days.
