Protest stand for disabled students in Sana'a

On Saturday, the capital Sana'a witnessed a protest by dozens of male and female students in centers specialized in the disabled, in an escalating step that comes as a result of the administration of the Disabled Rehabilitation Fund ignoring their demands.

The centers and associations of schools for the disabled in Sana'a and the governorates controlled by the Houthi militia demand that the Disabled Fund quickly disburse the operating budgets according to the specified standards, and that they be disbursed regularly on a monthly basis.

Pictures and videos showed a protest by female students of the vocational departments of the Deaf and Mute Association in the capital, Sana’a, who raised banners demanding that the Disabled Care Fund administration disburse the association’s operating budget.

During the stand in the association’s square, the students appealed to the management of the Disabled Fund to quickly disburse the association’s operating budgets so that they can complete their studies without interruption, expressing their hope that the fund’s management would understand their demands.

During the protest, schools and associations for people with disabilities held the management of the Fund for the Care and Rehabilitation of the Disabled fully responsible for depriving people with disabilities of their rights, as well as depriving girls of continuing their education.

The deadline given by the centers and schools for the disabled to the Disabled Care Fund and the Ministry of Social Affairs - affiliated with the unrecognized Houthi government - to meet the agreed-upon demands regarding the approval of operating budgets ended on Wednesday.

Schools and associations for the disabled held the Federation of Associations for the Disabled, the Board of Directors of the Fund for the Care and Rehabilitation of the Disabled, and the Ministry of Social Affairs fully responsible for any escalatory steps they might be forced to take.

The source explained that the centers and associations threatened to take escalatory steps since last Saturday to demand the operational budget dues, which the centers and associations launched with protest stands, according to the Capital Rights Center.
