Al Mahrah Governorate Police announced the seizure of suspicious materials used in manufacturing military equipment, while trying to send them outside the governorate in eastern Yemen.
The police said in a statement that the criminal investigation department was able on Wednesday evening to seize suspicious materials while trying to send them outside the governorate, through one of the transportation offices, after it was proven that they were used in the manufacture of military and civilian items.
The statement explained that "these materials were seized inside (2) cartons camouflaged with a black, crumbled substance inside (6) plastic bags weighing approximately 5 kilograms, with the seizure of a bag containing (10) plastic boxes containing metal spare parts stuffed in plastic capsules.
A security source reported that the seized material is called carbon fiber and is used for several civilian and military purposes, noting that it was seized and impounded in preparation for its presentation for a thorough examination through forensic evidence.
