The Houthi coup militia launched a campaign of compulsory taxes in the capital, Sana'a, and the rest of the governorates under its control, targeting all segments of society, to finance the "Mawlid al-Nabi" events, more than two weeks before the occasion.

Identical sources told "Yemeni Youth Net" that the Houthi militia began imposing financial levies on the private sector, merchants, dignitaries, and neighborhood leaders, as well as citizens, stall owners, and street vendors, to finance its activities on the occasion of the Prophet's birthday.

She added that the tax teams began to go out to the streets and oblige shops to pay varying amounts according to the commercial activity, immediately and without delay.

Local residents said that militia elements were simultaneously passing by shops, institutions and vendors, demanding that they quickly decorate their shops by removing the green fabrics and lights, and threatening with imprisonment and fines anyone who did not carry out their orders.

Meanwhile, official institutions under Houthi control began lighting their buildings with green lights and raising banners worth millions of riyals to celebrate the occasion, while the cities under their control are witnessing a complete collapse in their infrastructure and their people are dying of hunger.

The Iranian-backed Houthi militia exploits religious occasions to serve its sectarian project and turn them into seasons for financial levies and popular mobilization with the aim of sectarianizing society.
