The Arab-Islamic summit, held in Riyadh, called on the UN Security Council to issue a binding resolution to cease fire in Gaza, and demanded a ban on the export or transfer of weapons to Israel. While accusing Israel of committing genocide in Gaza, the summit stressed that there would be no peace with it before its withdrawal to the June 4, 1967 line.
This came in the final statement issued by the Arab and Islamic summit called for and chaired by Saudi Arabia to discuss developments in the Gaza Strip and Lebanon.
The summit called on the UN Security Council to issue a binding resolution to cease fire and immediately allow humanitarian aid into the Gaza Strip.
The leaders denounced the "horrific and shocking crimes" committed by the Israeli army in Gaza "in the context of the crime of genocide" against the Palestinians, referring to "mass graves, the crime of torture, field executions, enforced disappearances, looting and ethnic cleansing", especially in the north of the Strip.
The summit praised the efforts of Egypt and Qatar, in cooperation with the United States, to achieve an immediate and permanent ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, and held Israel responsible for its withdrawal from the agreements.
The leaders participating in the summit also called on all countries to "ban the export or transfer of arms and ammunition" to Israel.
No peace with Israel before withdrawal
The leaders of the Arab and Islamic countries stressed that there would be no peace with Israel before its withdrawal from all the occupied Arab territories "to the line of June 4, 1967."
The final statement stated, “A just and comprehensive peace in the region that guarantees security and stability for all its countries cannot be achieved without ending the Israeli occupation of all occupied Arab territories up to the June 4, 1967 line,” in accordance with relevant UN resolutions and the 2002 Arab Peace Initiative, which stipulates withdrawal from all occupied Arab territories and the establishment of a Palestinian state in exchange for normalizing relations.
The summit also called for "providing all forms of political and diplomatic support and international protection to the Palestinian people and the State of Palestine, achieving Palestinian national unity, and effectively assuming its responsibilities over all the occupied Palestinian territories, including the Gaza Strip, and unifying it with the West Bank, including the city of Jerusalem."
The final statement read: "We reaffirm the full sovereignty of the State of Palestine over occupied East Jerusalem, the eternal capital of Palestine," adding that Al-Aqsa Mosque is a "red line." The summit condemned "Israeli aggressive measures targeting Islamic and Christian holy sites in the city of Jerusalem and changing its identity" and called on the international community to pressure Israel to stop them.
Saudi Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan said - during the final statement - that a tripartite committee formed by the Arab League, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation and the African Union will move diplomatically in an effort to stop the war in Gaza and Lebanon. Bin Farhan expected that the efforts of this committee would be influential and important.
Since October 7, 2023, Israel has been waging a genocide in Gaza, with full American support, leaving more than 146,000 Palestinian martyrs and wounded, most of them children and women, and more than 10,000 missing, amid massive destruction and famine that killed dozens of children and the elderly, in one of the worst humanitarian disasters in the world.
After clashes with factions in Lebanon, most notably Hezbollah, which began the day after Israel launched its war of extermination on Gaza, Israel expanded the scope of the extermination since September 23 to include most areas of Lebanon, including the capital Beirut, through air strikes, and it also began a ground invasion in the southern region.
The Israeli aggression on Lebanon resulted in a total of 3,243 deaths and 14,134 injuries, including a large number of children and women, in addition to about 1,400,000 displaced persons.
