Japan announced that it will comprehensively evaluate the recognition of the State of Palestine, taking into account "the progress of the Middle East peace process."

Japanese Foreign Minister Kamikawa Yoko said, during a press conference on Friday in the capital, Tokyo, that they support the "two-state solution" in the region. She indicated that her country understands "the Palestinians' goal of establishing an independent state," and that it supports Palestine's efforts to achieve this goal.

“With regard to recognition of the Palestinian state, we want to continue to address this issue comprehensively, taking into account how to advance the peace process,” Yoko said.

Last April, Tokyo resumed its funding to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) after suspending it in January while conducting an investigation into Israeli allegations that its employees participated in the Al-Aqsa Flood operation, which targeted military sites of the occupation army and settlements near the Gaza Strip border in The seventh of last October.

The "Al-Aqsa flood" revived the conversation about the Palestinian state at the international level, and with it increased talk about the "two-state solution."

Since 1988, 139 of the 193 member states of the United Nations have recognized the Palestinian state. On May 28, Ireland, Spain, and Norway joined the list of countries that recognize the State of Palestine, and the decision was announced simultaneously by Dublin, Madrid, and Oslo, in a decision that angered the occupation and prompted Tel Aviv to summon the ambassadors of these countries to protest.

Japan formed part of the student movement in support of Palestine around the world, as students at Kyoto University in Japan organized a sit-in in May demanding an end to all types of cooperation with Israel, including in the field of military research.

Pro-Palestine students set up camps at the university and submitted a memorandum to its administration urging President Nagahiro Minato to publicly condemn violence against Palestinian civilians. The memorandum also urged the university administration to cancel the memorandum of understanding to conduct joint military research with Tel Aviv University in Israel.
