Tottenham qualified for the quarter-finals after defeating Manchester City

Manchester City and Chelsea bid farewell to the English Football League Cup, while Manchester United and Arsenal qualified with two big victories at the end of the round of 16 matches, on Wednesday evening.

Eight-time champions Manchester City bid farewell after losing 2-1 to hosts Tottenham Hotspur in London.

Tottenham took the lead with two goals scored by Timo Werner and Pape Sarr in the 5th and 25th minutes, and Portuguese Matheus Nunes reduced the difference with a goal in the fourth minute of stoppage time in the first half.

In the first match after the dismissal of its Dutch coach, Erik ten Hag, Manchester United qualified under the leadership of another Dutchman, Ruud van Nistelrooy, the interim coach, after a big victory over its guest, Leicester City, with a score of 5/2 at Old Trafford.

Brazilian midfielder Casemiro scored the first and fourth goals, Portuguese Bruno Fernandes scored the third and fifth goals, and Alejandro Garnacho scored the second goal in the 15th, 28th, 36th, 39th and 59th minutes.

While Bilal El Khannous and Conor Coady scored in the 33rd minute and the third minute of stoppage time in the first half.

As for Arsenal, they beat their host Preston North End with three goals scored by Gabriel Jesus, Ethan Nwaneri and Kai Havertz in the 24th, 33rd and 57th minutes.

Newcastle United beat Chelsea 2-0 to make up for their loss to the London side a few days ago in the English Premier League, and qualified thanks to goals from Alexander Isak and Chelsea defender Axel Disasi, who scored an own goal in the 23rd and 26th minutes.

Crystal Palace pulled off a shocking surprise by beating host Aston Villa 2-1.

Eberechi Eze and Daichi Kamada scored Crystal Palace's goals in the 8th and 64th minutes, while John Doran scored Aston Villa's only goal in the 23rd minute.

Before that, Liverpool, the title holder, qualified with a hard-fought 3-2 win over host Brighton, with Cody Gakpo scoring the first and second goals in the 46th and 63rd minutes. Brighton reduced the difference with a goal by Ivorian Simon Adingra in the 81st minute, before Colombian Luis Diaz added a third goal for Liverpool in the 85th minute.

Tariq Lamptey reduced the deficit again with a second goal for Brighton in the 90th minute, but it did not help the home side in their attempt to eliminate Liverpool, the title holder of last season and the most crowned with 10 titles with it, with 10 titles.
