Today, Tuesday, a government discussion session was held in the American capital, Washington, with the United States Agency for Development, regarding the development and rationalization of international support mechanisms for Yemen, on the sidelines of the participation of the government delegation and the Central Bank in the annual meetings of the World Bank Group and the International Monetary Fund.

The meeting was attended by the Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Waed Badhib, the Minister of Finance Salem bin Braik, the Governor of the Central Bank Ahmed Ghaleb, the Yemeni Ambassador to Washington Mohammed Al-Hadrami, and from the US Agency, the Deputy Senior Assistant to the Administrator for the Middle East Andrew Plett, the Assistant Chief of Humanitarian Operations Sonali Kurd, the Head of the Middle East Department Sylvia Ayoub, and a number of high-level officials in the Agency.

According to the Yemeni News Agency "Saba", the session discussed mechanisms for balancing development and humanitarian support, dealing with the decline in international funding for humanitarian programs, and aspects of partnership between the two sides in institutional support for capacity building in economic sectors. It also reviewed the repercussions of the violations and practices of the terrorist Houthi militias against humanitarian workers and employees of diplomatic missions.

The Yemeni side expressed its appreciation for the contributions of the US government as the largest humanitarian supporter of Yemen in recent years, praising the level of partnership with the agency in the path of building institutions and enhancing their capabilities, especially in the basic economic sectors, and the agency’s interventions to support the stability of services, especially in health, education, and others.

He stressed the importance of cooperation to implement the agreement to support Yemen to move to a better future, signed last March, which represents a model of partnership with donors to formulate interventions strategically and direct them according to urgent priorities, stressing the importance of considering reactivating livelihood support programs as one of the most important programs to improve the economic situation of families and communities.

The Yemeni side also stressed the importance of taking positions commensurate with the extent of the violations committed by the terrorist Houthi militias, so that they would have an impact in protecting the victims and pressuring the militia to stop its serious violations.

For his part, the agency's officials stressed their understanding of all the challenges facing the government, and their keenness to work with it and direct support according to the basic priorities and in line with the government's vision, pointing out that the continuation and development of their programs, whether humanitarian, developmental or institutional building support programs, are at the top of the agency's priorities, expressing their condemnation of the terrorist practices of the Houthi militia, its falsification of facts and doubling the suffering of Yemenis by complicating and restricting the role of relief organizations and targeting their employees.
