The UK Maritime Trade Operations said on Thursday that an oil tanker was attacked by two boats near the port of Mokha, southern Yemen.

Reuters quoted the authority as saying that the captain of a crude oil tanker called Delta Blue reported that it was attacked by two small boats 45 nautical miles south of the Yemeni port of Mokha, where a rocket-propelled grenade exploded near the ship.

The Liberian-flagged tanker and its crew are safe and sailing to its next port of call, the authority said.

The tanker is operated by Athens-based Delta Tankers, according to data from the London Stock Exchange Group. Reuters was not immediately able to obtain a comment from the company.

Each of the two black-and-white boats had four people on board. They were all wearing white and yellow raincoats, the agency's report said.

Earlier, the Houthi group announced targeting an American ship and two destroyers in the Red Sea for the first time since the Israeli aggression on Al Hudaydah Governorate.

Last Sunday, the UK Maritime Trade Operations said it had received a report of an incident involving a ship 13 nautical miles southwest of the Yemeni port of Mokha, but the ship and its crew were fine.
