Fires continue on the oil tanker Sunion in the Red Sea (Espides)

The UK Maritime Trade Operations said it received a report on Monday of an incident 61 nautical miles southeast of Mokha, Yemen.

The authority stated that the captain of a ship spotted an unmanned boat near it, along with two other small boats, about two nautical miles north of the unmanned boat.

Separately, British maritime security firm Ambrey said it was aware of an incident approximately 80 nautical miles southwest of Aden, Yemen.

This comes as the European Union's naval mission in the Red Sea, "Aspedes", confirmed that the fire that broke out in the oil tanker "Sunion" as a result of the Houthi attacks that targeted it in the Red Sea is still ongoing.

The mission said there were no clear signs of an oil spill so far, but said fires were seen in at least five locations on the ship's deck, with part of the superstructure on fire.

An image taken by the European Space Agency's Copernicus 2 satellite showed smoke rising from the sea near where Sounion was last spotted.

The tanker, carrying 150,000 tonnes of crude oil, poses an environmental hazard, Aspedas said on Thursday.

The Iran-allied Houthis have been attacking ships near Yemen since November in solidarity with Palestinians in the Gaza war.
