Bahah meets with Egyptian Assistant Foreign Minister
The Arab Republic of Egypt confirmed, on Monday, its interest in addressing the issue of Yemeni schools in its territory, to ensure the continuity of the educational process for the children of the Yemeni community.
This was stated by the Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs of Egypt for International Cultural Relations, Ambassador Yasser Shaaban, during his meeting with the Yemeni Ambassador to Egypt, Khaled Bahah, to discuss the file of Yemeni schools in Egypt, according to the Saba Agency.
The Egyptian official stressed the Egyptian Foreign Ministry's interest in the Yemeni schools file and finding appropriate solutions for it, expressing complete openness to cooperation in cultural events between the two countries during the coming period.
In turn, Ambassador Bahah reviewed the efforts made by the embassy to regulate the status of schools in accordance with the laws and regulations of the host country, and the embassy’s full commitment to providing appropriate educational services to the community’s children.
He pointed out that closing schools at this time of the school year has caused more than six thousand students to remain at home and threatens to remove them from the educational system.
He pointed out that the closure came at a time when Yemeni students are facing difficulty in enrolling in Egyptian schools, which now require obtaining a temporary residence permit before registration, contrary to the usual procedures that were in place during the past years, which enable the student to obtain a residence permit based on the educational registration certificate.
The meeting also discussed the issue of organizing the Yemeni Cultural Week in Cairo and its role in strengthening cultural ties between the two countries and brotherly peoples. It was decided to agree on setting a date and program for the events in the near future.
The message, which was obtained by Yemen Youth Net, added: “Because the delay may lead to the loss of an academic year for our students, who number 6,000 students and who have been displaced to Egypt for treatment and to escape the horrors of war and the current situation in Yemen.”
She concluded by saying: “We ask Your Excellency to kindly issue a letter to the Egyptian Minister of Education, which the embassy will deliver to the Egyptian Foreign Ministry, including approval to open Yemeni schools in Egypt, according to the request of the Egyptian Ministry of Education, in a way that meets the procedural requirements and ensures the stability of the educational process in order to preserve the national identity.”
