The terrorist Houthi militia burned down a citizen's house in one of the towns of Ibb Governorate (central Yemen), after one of his sons wrote posts criticizing the militia's violations and practices in the governorate.
The Equality Organization for Rights and Freedoms said on Wednesday that it had received a report that Houthi militants had burned down the house of citizen Hamoud Hamoud Hussein Obaidi Al-Raimi, last Saturday, in the village of Bani Muzab, Bani Saif Al-Safil District, Al-Qafr District, after one of his sons wrote posts criticizing the group’s practices and violations in Ibb Governorate.
She pointed out that the fire caused the house to burn down with all its furniture, in addition to the citizen (Hammoud Al-Raimi), 60 years old, sustaining severe burns - as shown in the attached video - during his desperate attempts to extinguish the fire in his house.
The organization strongly condemned this crime and stressed that "it comes in the context of a systematic campaign aimed at terrorizing and suppressing any voices that criticize the group's practices and its ongoing violations against the people of Ibb Governorate and all governorates under its control."
The organization considered that "this attack represents a serious violation of human rights and freedom of expression guaranteed by local and international laws, foremost among which are the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, which prohibit any acts of intimidation or violence against individuals because of their opinions or expression of their peaceful positions."
Musawah Organization affirmed its full solidarity with the victim and his family, and renewed its continued support for the right of citizens to express their opinions freely without fear of reprisal or violence because of their opinions.
The organization called on the United Nations and the international community to condemn this heinous crime and exert real pressure on the Houthi group to stop its repressive practices and serious violations of citizens' rights in all areas under its control.
