Dozens of workers in the transport sector from the ports of Hodeidah (western Yemen) threatened to organize a general strike unless the dilapidated roads in Ibb Governorate (central Yemen) are repaired.

A statement issued by the carriers said that they are demanding the repair of the (Al-Jarahi-Ibb) road, especially the Mashoura pass, the Al-Udayn market, the Jablah junction, and the lower junction, within two weeks from the date of the statement issued the day before yesterday.

The drivers gave the Houthi militia a deadline until mid-September to repair and restore these roads before they decided to resort to a comprehensive transport strike.

The statement was issued by dozens of drivers, most notably fuel transport drivers (diesel petrol), drivers of the ports of Hodeidah Governorate with all its offices, drivers of silos and warehouses in Hodeidah, drivers of the Fahem and Al-Habari groups, in addition to drivers of the sugar factory in Ras Issa.

This comes at a time when heavy transport drivers are suffering from mud and rock slides and excavations on the roads of Ibb Governorate, which hinder their movement, especially in mountainous bends, and cause accidents that incur heavy losses.

The roads in Ibb Governorate are witnessing great destruction and are getting worse with the rainy season, amid the neglect of the militia authorities and their disregard for all calls to repair these roads according to well-studied plans that contribute to the sustainability of these repairs and their resilience to various climate changes.
