Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdel Aati affirmed, on Monday, Egypt's support for the unity of the Yemeni state, the integrity of its territories, and the independence of its institutions, noting the importance of Yemen's security and stability to Egyptian national security and the Red Sea region.
This came during his reception of Hans Grundberg, the Special Envoy of the Secretary-General of the United Nations to Yemen, according to the Egyptian Foreign Ministry.
Abdel-Ati expressed Egypt's support for all efforts aimed at reaching a comprehensive political solution to the Yemeni crisis, in a way that meets the aspirations of the brotherly Yemeni people and ends their humanitarian suffering, in accordance with the references of the Yemeni National Dialogue, the Gulf Initiative, the outcomes of the Yemeni consultations in Riyadh, and the relevant Security Council resolutions, most notably Resolution No. 2216.
Abdel-Ati also discussed the Egyptian support for legitimacy in Yemen, reviewing the Egyptian efforts to provide various forms of support to the Yemeni people, especially in the field of medical and food aid, in addition to Egypt hosting more than one million Yemeni citizens on its lands and providing them with all living services, and providing all possible facilities to the Yemeni brothers.
The Egyptian Foreign Minister noted the importance of ensuring the safety of maritime navigation in the Red Sea and its direct connection to Egyptian national security, reviewing the decline in Suez Canal revenues as a result of tensions in the Red Sea.
He pointed out the need to adopt a comprehensive approach to de-escalation in the region, starting with reaching an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and Lebanon, and strong pressure from international actors to reach a final and implementable settlement to the crisis in Yemen.
He also stressed the importance of the international community playing its role in reducing the aggravation of the humanitarian crisis suffered by the brotherly Yemeni people, and providing the necessary support to finance the United Nations relief programmes in Yemen.
