17 Yemeni fishermen from Al Hudaydah Governorate appealed to the concerned authorities in the Yemeni government to intervene with the Sudanese authorities to return their boats that were confiscated five months ago while they were being detained after their boats drifted into international waters.

Sudanese Interior Minister, Lieutenant General Khalil Pasha, said on Monday that Yemenis residing in Sudan receive care and attention.

The Sudanese army announced, on Sunday, the defection of military commander Abu Aqla Muhammad Ahmed Kikil from the leadership of the Rapid Support Forces in Al-Jazeera State (central), and his joining the fighting in the ranks of the army.

Tensions have been rising in the Horn of Africa since Ethiopia signed a memorandum of understanding in early 2024 with the government of the breakaway Somaliland region, under which Addis Ababa will have the right to build a military naval base along a 20-kilometre stretch of the Somali coast, along with the right to use the port of Berbera to import goods.

The Sudanese army launched artillery and air strikes in the Sudanese capital Khartoum on Thursday, military sources told Reuters, in the largest operation to retake territory there since the start of its 17-month war on the Rapid Support Forces.

Egypt announced, on Sunday, "sending a letter to the UN Security Council regarding the developments of the Ethiopian Renaissance Dam," in which it stressed that Addis Ababa's policies will have "negative effects" on the downstream countries, Egypt and Sudan.
