CNN reported that Israeli intelligence believes that the Lebanese Hezbollah will launch an attack on August 12, and hours later, Iran will launch an attack on Israel.
The Israeli website Walla also quoted Israeli officials as saying that estimates indicate that Iran has decided to launch a direct attack on Israel in response to the assassination of the head of the political bureau of the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas), Ismail Haniyeh, in Tehran in late July.
The website added that military intelligence and the air force raised the alert level in light of estimates of an imminent Iranian response.
Israeli Army Radio quoted security officials as saying that Iran is close to a decision regarding a direct attack from its territory on Israel, but estimates in Israel indicate that the Iranian response will be limited and will not lead to a comprehensive war.
In the same context, Axios correspondent Barak Ravid reported today, Sunday, quoting two sources, that Israeli intelligence believes that Iran has decided to attack Israel directly, and may do so within days, in response to the assassination of Haniyeh.
For his part, Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Galant reiterated his threat to Iran and Hezbollah, saying that any attack on Israel would be met with a strong response in ways that Israel had not used before, according to his expression.
Military training
Galant added during a meeting with a group of new recruits to the Nahal and Kfir units in the army that Israel is not interested in expanding the scope of the war to other fronts, but the possibility is there and we must prepare for it, according to him.
In return, the Iranian Revolutionary Guard began conducting military exercises with the participation of missile units in the west of the country, while the spokesman for the Guard confirmed that Israel would receive a response to what he described as the foolishness of assassinating Haniyeh at the "specified date."
The Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA) said on Sunday that the Revolutionary Guards are conducting military exercises in the western regions of the country near the Iraqi border "to improve combat readiness."
The official agency quoted a regional official as saying that the military exercises began on Friday near the border cities of Qasr-e Shirin and Gilan-e Gharb in Kermanshah province, and are scheduled to continue until Tuesday.
A few days ago, Israeli newspapers suggested the possibility that Iran would refrain from launching attacks against Israel in light of the feverish American efforts to stop the escalation in the region.
In contrast, Israeli writers believe that Hezbollah's response to the assassination of the party's senior military official, Fouad Shukr, "is inevitable, and may resemble the Al-Aqsa Flood attack carried out by Hamas on October 7."
