The Yemeni Teachers Club confirmed that the money collected by the Houthi militia from citizens and service institutions in the name of the "Teacher Support Fund" does not benefit teachers whose salaries have been cut off for eight years.
The club said in a statement on the X platform that the money that the militia claims to be spending on the teacher "only benefits the thieves of power," referring to the militia leaders.
In its statement, the club addressed the Houthis, saying: “Cutting off the salaries of educators is a major crime, and more criminal than that is exploiting the citizen and the people under the name of supporting the teacher’s fund, from which they receive nothing but your injustice, oppression, and false accusations of them being agents, traitors, mercenaries, and working for a foreign agenda.”
The club called on citizens to categorically refuse to pay any amount of money added to electricity bills, taxes, etc. in the name of the teacher, stressing: “Our pockets are innocent before God of that money that only the thieves of power benefit from.”
The Houthi militia has been cutting off salaries for teachers and other employees of state institutions in areas under its control for more than eight years, and has suppressed all activities demanding the disbursement of those salaries, including the activities of the Teachers’ Club, a number of whose leaders have been kidnapped.
Over the past years, the Houthi militia has established a tax fund called “Teacher Support” from which it collects billions that citizens pay in a mandatory manner as part of the bills of telecommunications companies, electricity companies, and other institutions, without the teacher benefiting from it at all.
