A recent UN report stated that the number of refugees and asylum seekers in Yemen reached more than 60,000 refugees and asylum seekers during the first half of this year.

The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees ( UNHCR ) said in a report issued today, Wednesday, that the total number of refugees and asylum seekers hosted by Yemen reached 60,193 people, during the period between January and June 2024.

The report indicated that Somalis constitute the majority of refugees and asylum seekers, at 64%, followed by Ethiopians (25%), then Syrians (5%), and the rest from Eritrea, Iraq and other countries.

The UNHCR confirmed that it is the only agency responsible for the protection and welfare of refugees and asylum seekers throughout Yemen, as it and its partners provide a wide range of services, such as protection and access to basic services including education, health care, water, sanitation, shelter, energy and sanitation, free of charge.
