Greece confirmed on Wednesday that a ship flying its flag was attacked west of the port of Hodeidah, western Yemen.
Greek Minister of Maritime Affairs and Island Policies Christos Stylianides condemned the attack on a Greek-flagged tanker in the Red Sea.
Agence France-Presse quoted Stylandis as saying, "A tanker with a crew of 25 was subjected to an armed attack on Wednesday morning, 72 nautical miles west of the port of Hodeidah in Yemen."
He pointed out that the health condition of the ship's crew members is good, and that the ship damaged in the attack is still waiting in the area.
He stressed his condemnation of the attack, considering it "a violation of international law and a serious threat to the security of international maritime transport."
The UK Maritime Authority announced that a commercial ship was hit 72 nautical miles off the Houthi-controlled coastal city of Hodeidah, causing a fire on board and the loss of its engine.
