Secretary-General of the Psychologists Syndicate in Taiz Governorate, Walid Al-Rabasi, said on Thursday that the Houthi war, displacement, unemployment, the collapse of the economic situation, and the worsening humanitarian crisis are the most prominent reasons that led to the worsening of the psychological state among Yemenis.
Al-Rabasi confirmed in a statement to the "Yemeni Youth" channel that "the war comes first in the list of causes," noting that many of the injured are people who have been displaced, and those who have been displaced, in addition to people who have lost their jobs.
He pointed out that the deterioration of the economic situation, stressing that it came as a continuation of the previous factors, warning of the continued deterioration of the economic situation in the country, and its impact on the lives of the population who are unable to provide a living or medicine.
In this context, he pointed out the lack of government institutions that meet the citizen's need for treatment in the event of illness, not to mention the lack of the simplest services in these medical institutions, and their high prices, if they exist.
Al-Rabasi addressed the issue of qat consumption, stressing that the qat plant is one of the main factors that increase the spread of psychological factors in society, without those who consume qat being aware of these risks.
Regarding the work of humanitarian organizations in this regard, Al-Rabasi said that many humanitarian organizations work in the field of mental health without any vision, which makes their projects ineffective, according to his description.
He stressed the lack of real and clear figures for psychological and mental disorders, despite the spread of psychological suffering in the recent period to a very large extent.
It coincides with the celebration of World Mental Health Day, which falls on October 10 of each year.
