Palestine calls for an international draft resolution to force Israel to stop the Israeli genocide in Gaza
Gaza| 11 November, 2024 - 12:11 AM
Palestinian Prime Minister Mohammed Mustafa called on Sunday for submitting a draft resolution to the UN Security Council to force Israel to stop the genocide in the Gaza Strip.
This came in his speech during the preparatory ministerial meeting for the extraordinary Arab and Islamic summit scheduled to be held on Monday in the Saudi capital, Riyadh, according to the official Palestinian news agency, “Wafa.”
On Monday, the extraordinary Arab-Islamic summit will be held, which Riyadh called for on October 30, “to discuss the continued Israeli aggression on the Palestinian territories and Lebanon, and the developments of the current situation in the region.”
Mustafa, who also serves as Foreign Minister, called for “submitting a draft resolution to the Security Council under Chapter VII of the United Nations Charter, to oblige Israel, the occupying power, to cease fire in the Gaza Strip, allow immediate entry of humanitarian aid, and implement relevant Security Council resolutions.”
He stressed the need to "support the efforts and vision of President Mahmoud Abbas to hold an international peace conference within a year."
The Palestinian Prime Minister stressed “the importance of working together on practical steps and sanctions against Israel to end its illegal occupation of the State of Palestine within 12 months, as stated in the General Assembly resolution to implement the legal advisory opinion of the International Court of Justice.”
On September 18, the United Nations General Assembly approved, by a majority of 124 votes to 14, the first resolution submitted by Palestine, calling for Israel’s withdrawal from the occupied territories within 12 months.
Mustafa called for “adopting the submission of a draft resolution to the Security Council for the State of Palestine to obtain full membership in the United Nations, and implementing this resolution as soon as possible, let it be in the days following the summit, and launching steps to freeze Israel’s participation in the United Nations General Assembly.”
He pointed out the necessity of “Arab and Islamic countries joining the genocide lawsuit against Israel in the International Court of Justice, and working to “enhance the speed of the International Court of Justice’s ruling on Israel’s commission of the crime of genocide against our people.”
On December 29, 2023, South Africa filed a lawsuit before the International Court of Justice in The Hague, accusing Israel of committing “crimes of genocide” in the Gaza Strip, which is being subjected to a genocidal war by Tel Aviv.
Mustafa called on the Global Alliance for the Implementation of the Two-State Solution to “complete its recognition of the State of Palestine, adopt Palestine’s full membership in the United Nations, and take political, legal, and economic measures to push Israel to implement the two-state solution.”
Last September, Saudi Arabia announced, on behalf of Arab and Islamic countries and European partners, the launch of the “International Alliance to Implement the Two-State Solution,” and the alliance held its first meetings on Wednesday and Thursday.
Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and his accompanying delegation arrived in Riyadh on Sunday evening to participate in the summit, according to the official Palestinian news agency.
With American support, Israel has been committing genocide in Gaza since October 7, 2023, leaving more than 146,000 Palestinian martyrs and wounded, most of them children and women, and more than 10,000 missing, amid massive destruction and famine that killed dozens of children and the elderly, in one of the worst humanitarian disasters in the world.
