Reuters quoted three Iranian sources as saying that Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei warned Hezbollah Secretary-General Hassan Nasrallah and asked him to leave Lebanon days before he was killed in an Israeli raid, and that Khamenei is currently very concerned about Israeli penetration of the highest levels of government in Tehran.

One of the sources, a senior Iranian official, told the agency that immediately after the bombing of Hezbollah communications devices on September 17, Khamenei sent a message through an emissary asking the Hezbollah secretary-general to leave for Iran, citing intelligence reports that Israel had agents inside the Lebanese party and was planning to kill him.

The official added that the envoy was senior Iranian Revolutionary Guard commander Abbas Nilforoushan, who was with Nasrallah in his hideout when Israeli bombs targeted him and killed him.

A senior Iranian official said Khamenei, who has been in a highly secure location inside Iran since Saturday, gave the order to fire nearly 200 rockets at Israel on Tuesday. The Revolutionary Guards said in a statement that the attack was in response to the killing of Nasrallah and Nilforoushan.
