The decline of the Islamic component in Yemen: weakness or maneuver?

Our Writers| 27 August, 2024 - 6:05 PM

The Islamic movement has advanced in various countries of the Arab and Islamic world when it was bold, and it dropped calculations and did not drop calculations in the face of great and important events. The movement was courageous, and its sons were very sacrificial. Perhaps the movement is not required to continue adopting the idea of sacrifice throughout its long journey, but as a driving force and a general idea, it should not have abandoned this concept.

Going through complex calculations and entering into difficult equations puts you in front of many caveats, and this is understandable. It is also understandable that accumulating achievements and gains are two factors that influence decision-making. The decision-maker takes into consideration the importance of preserving them. However, these considerations, on the other hand, should not represent restrictions on freedom of movement, thinking, and determination to obtain more entitlements.. because these achievements are the result of decades of courage, strength, and gradual tactics represented by a series of bows, concessions, and submission, which may turn into a working strategy if they exceed the appropriate limit for them.

The truth is that the Islamic movement in Yemen was previously known for its great shrewdness, wisdom and evasion, and until a certain point it was moving in the right direction. But this shrewdness began to take a different direction, and with it began long processes that ultimately led to the movement losing its most important factor of strength: the factor of strong discourse with its challenges to reality and its pledges to try to influence it.

Although the regional factor played a major role in opposing this discourse, and sought diligently to eliminate its wide influence among the peoples of the region; it is not correct to eliminate it, given its importance, as it is considered the mother identity of the Islamic movement! In doing so, it is eliminating its personality, and walking a long path of concessions that did not, and will not, lead to a result that achieves a strategic gain greater than the gain that it could have achieved without giving up its discourse, its literature, and its solid mass in which it has lost faith.

Let us take, for example, the Islamic movement in Yemen, represented by the Yemeni Congregation for Reform Party, with its enormous human reservoir, in which experiences, capabilities and specializations are diverse, as is the diversity of the geography in which it operates: from the countryside to the desert, to the desert, to the valleys, plains and mountains, as well as to the large and major cities.

The "reform" was dear to its masses, strong in its presence, and rich in its principles. Its members - despite the severe tests and successive tribulations - were steadfast, loving their great party, and sacrificing it with everything dear and cheap, because at that time they were connected to the principles and slogans raised by the party... their organic connection to those goals that were in harmony with their thinking, feelings, and aspirations, because the Islamic concern was present at the top of the priorities of the "reform", as was the national and nationalist dimension, linked to the issues and concerns of the Arab countries, at the forefront of which was the central issue of Palestine.

Unfortunately, "Islah" today has become different, despite the great sacrifices made by its youth in all fields of struggle, defending the honor of the republic, and confronting the Houthi dynastic project; however, the effectiveness of its leaders, in my opinion, is not in harmony with those sacrifices, and does not match their level at all..!!

Today, "Islah" is not only different in terms of international issues, but also in terms of national issues. The difference I mean here is that this party, which is considered one of the most important components of national action and one of the levers of the political process in the country, has declined in its desired and usual role in pushing the Yemeni scene to the forefront of interests, through organized work in which the political mixes with the media and the street, in a unity that is in harmony with itself and knows exactly what it wants.

Therefore, the leaders of this bloc must return to proceeding in harmony with their bases and the extent of their sacrifices, which will enable them to impose their vision in the equation that is being formed successively by new players who are deducting from the scope of reform, its entitlements and its presence.
