Manchester City were crowned Community Shield champions for the seventh time in their history, beating their neighbours Manchester United 7-6 on penalties, after the original time ended in a 1-1 draw on Saturday at Wembley Stadium.
The goals of the 122nd edition of the tournament, which brings together the English Premier League and Cup champions, were scored by substitutes Argentine Alejandro Garnacho for United (82) and Portuguese Bernardo Silva for City (89).
Jadon Sancho and Jonny Evans missed their fourth and eighth penalties respectively for the Red Devils, before Swiss Manuel Akanji converted his kick into a goal, giving his team a title that has been absent from its coffers since 2019 when it defeated Liverpool in the same manner.
