Two female students were killed and 14 others were injured on Tuesday, following explosions near Aisha School in Al-Jund area in Al-Taiziyah district, east of Taiz, southwest of Yemen.
Local sources said that the victims of Aisha School students were the result of a stampede following violent explosions at a Houthi militia military site near the school.
She explained that the sound of the explosions caused the students to panic and fear, which led to a large stampede on the stairs and at the school gate as the students fled, causing some of the students to fall to the ground, resulting in the death of two students and the injury of 14 others, some of whom fainted.
Residents denounced the military activities of the Houthi militia in the Al-Jund camp near the school, while Houthi media attributed the explosions to air strikes by British and American aircraft that targeted the school’s surroundings, according to their statement.
So far, neither the United States nor Britain have commented on the incident. On a daily basis, the US Central Command announces the targeting of drones, missile systems and launch pads in Houthi-controlled areas, which it says pose a threat to navigation in the Red Sea.
About two weeks ago, more than 30 children were injured in an explosion inside a school in Bani Matar District in Sana'a, with conflicting accounts from the Houthi militia regarding the explosion.
In April 2019, 14 male and female students were killed and dozens of others were injured in a large explosion near Al-Ra’i School in the Saawan area of the capital, Sana’a.
At the time, the Houthi militias accused the Saudi-led coalition, but human rights organizations, including Human Rights Watch, confirmed that the explosion was the result of a fire that broke out in a warehouse controlled by the Houthis, where they store volatile materials near homes and schools, suggesting that the warehouse is a missile manufacturing workshop.
The Iranian-backed terrorist Houthi militias deliberately store weapons in the middle of residential neighborhoods and near service facilities and installations to avoid air strikes, as human rights reports confirm that the militia uses civilians as human shields.
