Leadership Council meeting on Hadhramaut people's demands

Special sources revealed to Yemen Youth Channel that the Presidential Leadership Council is planning to make changes in Hadhramaut Governorate, to reduce the ongoing escalation in the governorate that the Hadhramaut Tribal Alliance has been adopting for a few months.

According to sources for the "From the Other Side" program broadcast by the channel, the meeting was held by the Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council, Rashad Al-Alimi, in the presence of the Council members, Dr. Abdullah Al-Alimi, and Major General Faraj Salmeen Al-Bahsani, who had threatened to boycott the Council sessions.

The sources indicated that there is a near-agreement among the council members to make changes that include a number of governors, including Hadhramaut Governor Bin Madi, noting that there are four names nominated to succeed him, including Engineer Badr Basalma, Dr. Abdul Qader Bayazid, Akram Al-Amiri, and Essam Bin Habrish.

The sources confirmed that Engineer Badr Basalma is the most likely candidate to succeed Bin Madi, to assume the position of Governor of Hadhramaut Governorate, and he enjoys the support of the Hadhramaut National Council.

According to the sources, the changes will also include the governor of Shabwa, Awad bin Al-Wazir Al-Awlaki, and the governor of Socotra, Raafat Al-Thaqali, but none of the names nominated to succeed the governors of Shabwa and Socotra have been confirmed to date.

The program’s sources revealed that Al-Bahsani was not satisfied with the meeting and the recommendations it produced, as Al-Bahsani aspires to return to assume the position of governor, or to appoint names nominated by him to succeed Governor Bin Madi.

The sources expected that Hadhramaut would witness an increasing escalation during the coming period, led by the Hadhramaut Tribal Alliance, headed by the former deputy Issam bin Habrish, with the instigation, funding and support of council member Faraj Al-Bahsani, who still aspires to return to assume the position of governor.

The sources indicated that the Hadrami movement that the governorate has been witnessing for a few months, and which is adopted by the Hadramout Tribal Alliance, is supported by the member of the Leadership Council and former governor Faraj Al-Bahsani.

Sources indicate that the movement is adopting a number of rights demands, including building a gas-fired power plant for the governorate, raising the governorate’s share of oil exports from 20 to 50 percent, and recruiting 20,000 Hadramis into the army and security institutions.

While the Council said that it understands the rights demands of the people of Hadramout Governorate, stressing that it is working to achieve them, calling on the people of the governorate to keep the governorate away from disputes and conflicts, and to devote itself fully to development in the governorate and to strengthen its presence in decision-making centers.
