Former US President and Republican candidate for this year's presidential election, Donald Trump, today, Sunday, renewed his attacks on Yemeni immigrants to the United States of America, accusing them of terrorism.
This came during a speech he gave at an election rally in Pennsylvania, where he was the target of an assassination attempt last July.
Trump accused immigrants coming from Yemen across the southern border of being "terrorists," and said they were coming in large numbers, according to what was published on the Yemenis of America website's Facebook page.
"There are people coming from the African Congo... coming from the Middle East from Yemen who are designated terrorists, and they are being released into our country," Trump said.
Yemeni Americans criticized Trump's inflammatory rhetoric against Yemeni immigrants, whose numbers are negligible compared to other immigrants, and considered it a systematic insult and incitement against the Yemeni community, a number of whom have begun to announce their support for him in the upcoming presidential elections and open an office to support his election campaign.
Trump's recent statements brought back similar statements he made during his election campaign in August 2016, and other media statements in 2021 when he accused immigrants coming from Yemen of terrorism and described them as a "stain of shame."
Signs of division in the Yemeni community in America have begun to appear publicly regarding the US presidential elections scheduled to be held on November 5th. This comes after the positions of Hamtramck Mayor Amir Ghaleb and Michigan State Representative Ibrahim Ayash differed regarding their candidates for the US presidency, with the former announcing his support for Republican candidate Donald Trump, while the latter does not support him.
It is noteworthy that the majority of Yemeni and Arab votes in America went to President Biden in the 2020 elections, in protest against Trump's extremist policy against Arabs and immigrants. However, the Biden administration's position on the war on Gaza prompted many members of the Yemeni, Arab and Islamic community to withdraw their support for the Democratic Party in the upcoming elections.
The upcoming presidential elections are being contested by former US President Donald Trump of the Republican Party and current Vice President Kamala Harris of the Democratic Party.
