Three people were injured on Sunday, following renewed armed clashes between forces loyal to Presidential Council member Tariq Saleh and tribal gunmen in Al-Wazi'iyah district, west of Taiz Governorate, southwest of Yemen.
A tribal source told "Yemeni Youth Net" that armed clashes broke out on Sunday evening between the gunmen of the tribal leader, Abu Dhiyab Al-Alqami, and soldiers belonging to the National Resistance Forces affiliated with Tariq Saleh in the Al-Dharifa Triangle in Al-Wazi'iyah District.
He explained that gunmen affiliated with Al-Alqami tried to enter the market to perform the Maghrib prayer, but they were prevented by members of the police department affiliated with Tariq Saleh under the pretext of banning the carrying of weapons in the market, which led to verbal altercations that developed into clashes that resulted in the injury of two of Al-Alqami’s gunmen.
In contrast, media sites affiliated with Tariq Saleh reported that a soldier was injured during what they described as “pursuing armed elements that attacked a police station in Al-Wazi’iyah.”
The tribal source indicated that the renewed clashes came after the withdrawal of the forces of the Second Giants Division, led by Brigadier General Hamdi Shukri, who was assigned by Taiz Governor Nabil Shamsan to supervise the withdrawal agreement between the two parties.
At the beginning of this month, the local authorities in Taiz Governorate announced that an agreement had been reached between the two parties stipulating a ceasefire and the immediate withdrawal of all armed men affiliated with Abu Dhiab al-Alqami from all the locations where they were stationed, with the National Resistance Forces returning to their previous locations and Brigadier General Hamdi Shukri al-Subaihi overseeing this.
Late last September, clashes erupted between the two parties, following the establishment of a police station affiliated with the National Resistance Forces in one of the schools in the Al-Dharifa Triangle Market, resulting in injuries on both sides.
It is noteworthy that Abu Dhiyab Al-Alqami was the commander of one of the brigades in the National Resistance Forces before he was dismissed due to disagreements. However, he kept the force under his command, whose soldiers are from the Al-Wazi'iyah Directorate.
