The Yemeni Journalists Syndicate condemns the unjust ruling against Al-Sadawi and demands his immediate release

The Yemeni Journalists Syndicate condemned, on Tuesday, the unjust sentence issued by the Houthi militia against colleague Nabil Al-Sadawi, who has been kidnapped since 2015.

The union said in a statement that it "received a report from the defense team of Saba Agency journalist Nabil Al-Sadawi stating that the Sana'a Criminal Court issued an appeal ruling against the colleague last Sunday, increasing his prison sentence from eight to nine years in a trial that did not meet the minimum conditions for a fair trial."

The statement added that the Journalists Syndicate condemns this unjust ruling, which was issued after a series of arbitrary measures and practices, starting with kidnapping and disappearance, then preventing visits and torture, and imprisoning him for years without bringing him before a court that would allow the colleague and his lawyer to legally defend him.

The Journalists Syndicate also considered this ruling a continuation of the violations that the colleague has been subjected to for more than nine years that he has spent in prison, renewing its demand for the immediate release of Al-Sadawi and the end of all arbitrary and illegal measures against him.

The Houthi militia kidnapped journalist Nabil Mohammed Mohammed Al-Sadawi on September 21, 2015, and accused him of committing several serious crimes, including working for Saudi Arabia. They also forced him to confess to fabricated charges written by security personnel from the group, according to Amnesty International.

According to the organization, during the years he spent in Houthi prisons, Al-Sadawi was subjected to many human rights violations, including (enforced disappearance, torture and other forms of ill-treatment, and being prevented from communicating with a lawyer).
