Kidnapped in Houthi militia prisons

The Association of Mothers of Abductees strongly condemned, on Saturday, the death of one of the abductees in the prisons of the Houthi militia in Amran Governorate, northern Yemen.

The association said in a statement published on its website that it had received a report of the death of the kidnapped person, Khaled Mohammed Abu Saeed (40 years old), in the pretrial detention center in Amran Governorate.

She explained that the crime began with his kidnapping by the Houthis on June 1, 2024, while he was on his way to take his wife to a hospital in the capital, Sana’a, to receive treatment. He was taken to an unknown location and then transferred to the pretrial detention center in Amran Governorate, where he remained forcibly disappeared for the entire period following his kidnapping. His family was unable to visit him or learn the circumstances of his detention or any other details until they were informed of his death yesterday, August 23, 2024.

The Association expressed its concern about the increasing frequency of these serious violations against civilians in Yemen, the latest of which was the death of the kidnapped "Khaled Mohammed Abu Saeed" under mysterious detention conditions in the prisons of the Houthi militia, which raises serious questions about the treatment received by the kidnapped who are kidnapped without legal justification.

She explained that these crimes and their repetition without any deterrent increases their escalation, noting that they constitute a violation of all legal and ethical standards, and represent a blatant challenge to all human values and international covenants that protect human rights.

The association held the Houthi group fully responsible for the death of the kidnapped "Khaled Mohammed Abu Saeed" in its prisons, calling on the international community and human rights organizations to stop these crimes, which amount to war crimes.

The association's statement called for immediate and urgent action to release all those kidnapped, forcibly disappeared and arbitrarily detained before it is too late, and to assume responsibility for protecting civilians and holding accountable those responsible for these crimes.
