Clashes between the Security Belt and the Giants in Abyan
A leader in the Security Belt was killed, along with his companion, on Sunday, in armed clashes with members of the Giants Forces, in Al-Mahfad District in Abyan Governorate, in the south of the country.
Informed sources said that the clashes resulted in the killing of the commander of the security belt in Al-Mahfad District, "Hussein Al-Rabih", along with one of his companions, and the wounding of others. A number of individuals who were on board the vehicle, which was damaged as a result of the clash, were also killed and wounded.
The sources explained that clashes erupted between the Security Belt Forces and soldiers of the Fifth Giants Brigade who were on board a military vehicle, in the Al-Qawz crossing, in the Mudiyah district, east of Abyan.
According to the sources, the Security Belt members at Al Qouz checkpoint stopped the Giants' crew and asked them to hand over their weapons, but they refused and clashed with the Security Belt members.
Meanwhile, a local source told "Yemeni Youth Net" that a vehicle of the Fifth Giants Brigade forces was coming from Shabwa, and two armed men boarded it from the Al-Mahfad line, near Mudiyah (as a humanitarian position).
The source added that when the Giants' crew arrived at Al-Qouz checkpoint in Mudiyah, it was stopped for inspection, but the gunmen opened direct fire on the Security Belt personnel, leading to clashes between the two parties.
No official clarification has been issued by the Giants Brigades, the Security Belt, or the Southern Transitional Council regarding the nature of the bloody clashes, until the time of writing this report.
