Thunderstorms accompanying heavy rains across the country have killed 14 people in a number of districts in Hajjah Governorate (northwest Yemen).

The Houthi-affiliated Saba news agency quoted a local official in the militia authorities in Hajjah governorate as saying that 14 people died in the past few days as a result of thunderstorms that struck a number of the governorate’s districts.

He added that thunderstorms led to the death of three citizens in Abs District, and the same number in Kahlan Afar District, while 8 others died in Aslam, Bani Al-Awam, Dhahra, Al-Miftah, Al-Mahabsha, Kushar, Qafl Shammar and Al-Shaghadrah districts.

Hajjah Governorate is one of the Yemeni governorates that experiences the most thunderstorms, and its incidents in recent years have caused the death and injury of dozens.

Over the past few days, the governorate has witnessed heavy rains accompanied by thunderstorms and severe floods that caused significant damage to property, infrastructure, and the homes of citizens and displaced persons.

Since last March, dozens of Yemenis have died as a result of thunderstorms accompanying the seasonal rains that are being witnessed throughout the country, and their intensity has increased since late last June.
