Hadhramaut Tribal Alliance warns against ignoring the demands of the people of the province and demands respect for the right to peaceful demonstration

On Sunday, the Hadhramaut Tribal Alliance warned against ignoring the demands of the governorate’s people and not deciding on them, stressing that not finding quick and effective solutions for them could lead to their exacerbation and increase the pace of popular discontent.

The alliance said in a statement that it followed the protests that took place on Sunday morning, September 1, 2024, in the city of Shihir in the Ghayl Bawazir Directorate, following demands previously raised by fishermen and residents of the area that were not met, and what accompanied this was the actions of some military crews firing live ammunition and using hot water hoses to disperse the protesters, and arresting the two young men, Salem Rabie Badqeeq and Awad Muhammad bin Saeedo.

He added that he followed the demonstrations and protests expressing the demand for rights and the redress of grievances, as well as the university students’ coordination committees in the eastern directorates (Ghail Bawazir - Ash Shihr - Al Hami) carrying out protests in front of the local authorities’ buildings in these directorates, denouncing the rise in diesel and petroleum derivatives prices.

The alliance called on the competent authorities in Hadhramaut to quickly decide on urgent issues and not to deport or ignore them.

He called on the security services and the Hadrami elite to support their fellow citizens, address grievances, deal with them humanely, respect their right to expression and peaceful demonstration, and refrain from using force in any way.

He renewed his call to the local authorities in Hadhramaut to immediately release all detainees, deal rationally and responsibly with citizens demanding their legitimate rights, and solve problems rather than inflame them by suppressing freedom of expression and demonstration and threatening the security and stability witnessed in Hadhramaut.
