Government report: Hundreds of displaced families in Abyan and Taiz affected by floods

A recent government report revealed that hundreds of displaced families in Abyan Governorate (south) and Taiz Governorate (southwest of Yemen) were affected by the floods that hit the two governorates during the period from August 16-18.

The Executive Unit for the Management of Displaced Persons Camps said in a preliminary report on the damage caused by heavy rains, floods and strong winds that hit various areas of Abyan Governorate on August 16-17 that it documented the impact of 303 displaced families.

According to the report, these rains and floods caused the destruction of many homes and shelters, and caused damage to the displaced among the displaced and the host community, including (44 families in Kadma Laour, 69 families in Wadi Al-Kud, 20 families in Al-Makhzan, 20 families in Al-Nash, and 150 families in Joul Sinan and Joul Al-Sada in Jaar, Khanfar District).

In Taiz Governorate, the Executive Unit reported that heavy rains and resulting floods that hit the governorate on 17-18 August caused severe destruction to shelters, non-food items ( NFIs ) and food supplies for internally displaced persons in Al-Qahirah and Sala districts.

According to the report, a total of 242 displaced persons living in nine sites in Al Qahirah District and one site in Sala District were affected by the rains and floods.

The Executive Unit confirmed that displaced families in the two governorates "are currently in dire need of food, shelter, non-food items and medical assistance."
