Early Monday morning, the Israeli occupation army targeted the Cola area in the heart of the Lebanese capital, Beirut, with an airstrike, for the first time since the 2006 war.

Media sources reported that "a missile was fired from a drone at a residential apartment in a building in the Cola area in the center of the Lebanese capital."

At least two people were killed in the raid, which hit the top floor of the residential building.

The Israeli army said it carried out an attack in Beirut and bombed Hezbollah targets in the Bekaa Valley in eastern Lebanon.

Al Jazeera quoted its correspondent as saying: "Early on Monday, Israeli warplanes carried out successive raids on the area west of Baalbek in the Bekaa Valley in eastern Lebanon."

He pointed out "raids on the outskirts of the cities of Baalbek and Hermel, and the bombing also included the towns of Shamshtar, Nabi Sheet, and Nabi Othman in the same region."

The Lebanese Ministry of Health announced that the death toll from the Israeli raids on Lebanon yesterday, Sunday, reached 105 martyrs and 359 wounded.

Ground operation

In the same context, the Israeli Broadcasting Corporation reported that the Israeli occupation army is preparing to launch a "limited ground operation" in Lebanon, amid unprecedented American pressure to prevent this move.

"The political level (the government) is seriously considering implementing a limited ground operation, despite Washington exerting unprecedented pressure over the past few days to prevent such a move," she said.

Israeli officials claim, according to media reports in the past few days, that the potential ground operation would aim to establish a "security buffer zone in southern Lebanon."

The government, headed by Benjamin Netanyahu, has not yet made a final decision on whether or not to carry out a ground operation, according to the Israeli authority.

For the eighth consecutive day, the escalation continues on the Lebanese front, amid violent Israeli raids that leave dozens of martyrs and wounded daily in different areas of Lebanon, at a time when the world awaits Iran and Hezbollah’s response to the assassination of the party’s Secretary-General, Hassan Nasrallah, along with other leaders.
