Media sources reported initial information that the body of the head of Hezbollah's Executive Council, Hashem Safieddine, was recovered from the Mareija site in the southern suburb, along with other leaders of the party. This coincides with the Israeli occupation's announcement of his death in raids three months ago.

Al-Araby Al-Jadeed newspaper reported that there is no official confirmation from Hezbollah of this information, noting that the recovery operations are ongoing. Safieddine's fate has remained unknown since a series of Israeli raids that targeted him and some of the party's leaders in the southern suburbs of Beirut about three weeks ago.

The Israeli army announced the killing of the head of Hezbollah's executive council, Hashem Safieddine, and other military leaders in a raid on the southern suburbs of Beirut three weeks ago.

The Chief of Staff of the Israeli occupation army, Herzi Halevi, said that we reached (Hezbollah Secretary-General) Hassan Nasrallah, and his successor, and the majority of Hezbollah leaders. Halevi added that we know how to reach those who threaten the security of the citizens of Israel, as he put it.

For his part, the Israeli army spokesman for the Arab media, Avichay Adraee, said that the commander of Hezbollah's intelligence, Ali Hussein Hazima, was killed along with other leaders of the organization.

Adraee added, in a post on the X platform, that more than 25 members of Hezbollah's intelligence were inside the command headquarters that was targeted in the Israeli raid, including the air assembly officer, Saeb Ayyash, and the Hezbollah intelligence officer in Syria, Mahmoud Muhammad Shahin, according to the Israeli account.

A Lebanese security source revealed after the raid that Hezbollah had lost contact with the head of its executive council, Hashem Safieddine, after the intensive strikes launched by the Israeli army on the southern suburbs of Beirut.

The source said that Safi al-Din was in an underground headquarters when it was targeted by an Israeli airstrike in the Marija area, according to Al Jazeera.

Safieddine has reportedly headed Hezbollah’s Executive Council (which acts as Hezbollah’s government) since 1998, and is known as the party’s second-in-command after Nasrallah, to whom he is related, as he is his cousin, and the son-in-law of Qassem Soleimani, the former commander of the Quds Force of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps, who was killed in a US strike in Baghdad in 2020.

Hashem Safieddine supervised many of the party’s social and economic activities, most notably the reconstruction of Beirut’s southern suburbs after the July 2006 aggression. He is known for his knowledge of many internal and regional files.
