Real Madrid announced on Sunday the extension of the contract of its player Dani Carvajal until 2026, the day after a serious cruciate ligament injury that will keep him out of the stadiums until the end of the season.

The club said in a statement: "It was agreed, as planned, to renew Dani Carvajal's contract until June 30, 2026."

The international defender suffered a serious injury in the Villarreal match on Saturday, and will undergo surgery as a result, which will likely keep him out for the rest of the season.
