Qatar Charity confirmed on Wednesday that it will continue to provide relief aid to those affected by floods in Yemen. It said in a statement that it distributed 650 food baskets and 650 shelter bags to affected families in the Hays and Al-Khokha areas, which are among the areas most affected by the floods, as part of the ongoing efforts of its humanitarian campaign "Save the Flood Victims in Yemen."
The campaign had previously distributed 500 food baskets and 500 shelter bags in Ma'rib Governorate, as this aid targeted camps for the displaced who suffered from the effects of these floods.
The shelter kits include blankets, mattresses, rugs and kitchen utensils, while the food baskets contain basic food supplies that will suffice the beneficiary families for a month.
The Director of Hays District, Mutahhar Qadi, said that the aid provided by Qatar Charity contributed greatly to alleviating the suffering of the affected families, and expressed his appreciation to all the supporters and implementers from the Human Development Program (Qatar Charity’s local partner) who contributed to these charitable efforts, according to the statement.
Meanwhile, the elderly woman, Fatima Taher, whose house and everything she owned were swept away by the floods, said that the food basket and shelter bag arrived at a time when she was in dire need of help, as she and her family were without food or shelter.
Citizen Salma Awad Jabali pointed out the suffering of citizens whose homes were destroyed by floods and whose agricultural lands were swept away. She said that the situation is very difficult, noting that the aid provided has restored hope and reassurance to those affected in light of the critical circumstances they are facing.
According to Qatar Charity, it will soon distribute 3,500 food baskets containing basic food supplies, 3,500 health bags and personal hygiene materials. This will be followed by the distribution of 1,100 food baskets and 1,100 health bags through another project, supported by the Start Fund organization. Khalifa Health Center in Al Marawa’a District, which was damaged by the floods, will also be renovated.
It is noteworthy that this year's unprecedented floods in Yemen have exacerbated the already critical humanitarian crisis, especially among internally displaced persons, and increased urgent needs for shelter, health services and food security.
