Yemeni film "Exhausted and a Bucket" wins Casablanca Film Award

Two Yemeni films won the grand prize at the fifth edition of the Casablanca Arab Film Festival, which was held in the Moroccan city of Casablanca, on Saturday.

According to media sources, the Yemeni film (The Exhausted) by director Amr Gamal won the grand prize for feature films, while the film (Bucket) by director Adel Al-Haimi won the award for best short film directing.

The Yemeni Ambassador to Morocco, Ezz El-Din Al-Asbahi, received the awards on behalf of the winners, stressing that this achievement is a source of pride for all Yemenis, especially in light of the difficult circumstances the country is going through due to the war.

Ambassador Al-Asbahi said in a post on his Facebook page that this victory is a new achievement for Yemeni cinema, as the two Yemeni films won among 12 Arab films that were shown during the festival.

Al-Asbahi added, "This is a great Yemeni day par excellence, as the sun of Arab creativity rises from the West."

He pointed out that this award confirms "the necessity of the positive role that cinema plays in promoting the values of peace, coexistence and acceptance of others, as it constitutes the collective memory of the nation," noting that "the committee unanimously approved the film "Exhausted" as deserving, with deserved praise for this Yemeni achievement."

It is noteworthy that the film (The Exhausted) by director Amr Gamal had previously won awards. It was directed by Amr Gamal and starred Abeer Mohamed and Khaled Hamdan.
