The International Federation of Journalists called on the terrorist Houthi militia to quickly release the journalists who were recently kidnapped, "Mohammed Al-Mayahy" and "Fouad Al-Nahari" and the rest of the journalists kidnapped in its prisons.
The union said in a statement on Tuesday, "The Houthi group kidnapped two journalists, Mohammed Al-Mayahy and Fouad Al-Nahari, in late September. We join our members, the Yemeni Journalists Syndicate, in calling on the de facto authorities and other armed groups to immediately release Al-Mayahy, Al-Nahari, and all unjustly detained journalists in the country."
For his part, the Secretary General of the International Federation of Journalists, Anthony Bellanger, said: “We strongly condemn the poor working environment and the climate of fear that journalists and media professionals live in in Yemen, which puts their safety at risk.”
“Our colleague Mohammed Al-Mayahy is the latest in a long list of journalists who must be released immediately and unconditionally,” he added.
“We call on the de facto authorities and other armed groups to stop obstructing the work of journalists and to release all journalists unjustly detained,” Belangi continued.
In late September, the Houthi militia kidnapped journalists Al-Mayahy and Al-Nahari, as well as journalists Mohammed Al-Sahbani and Abdo Masoud Al-Madan, before releasing Al-Sahbani and transferring Al-Madan to the hospital due to the deterioration of his health.
In addition to the above journalists, the Houthi militia has kidnapped journalists Wahid Al-Sufi since April 2015, Nabil Al-Sadawi since September 2015, and Fahd Al-Arhabi since last August, while the Transitional Council forces have kidnapped journalists Ahmed Maher and Naseh Shaker since August 2023 and November 2023, respectively. Journalist Mohammed Al-Maqri has been hidden by Al-Qaeda in Hadhramaut since October 2015.
