Walid Al-Qadimi, First Deputy Governor of Al-Hodeidah (western Yemen), confirmed that the terrorist Houthi militia is exploiting the ports and coasts of the governorate for military purposes that threaten regional and international peace and security.
“Hodeidah Governorate is no longer just a local problem, but rather an embodiment of global crises where humanitarian crises overlap with climate change and armed conflicts,” he said in a speech delivered during the 57th session of the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva.
He added that the Stockholm Agreement, which was concluded in 2018 to cease fire in Hodeidah, prevented the governorate from being completely liberated from the control of the militia supported by the Iranian regime, which allowed it to exploit marine resources for military purposes.
In his speech, which was organized by the Ma'ounah Association for Human Rights in partnership with the Geneva International Center for Justice, Al-Qadimi stressed that the ports of Hodeidah were a lifeline for Yemenis, before the terrorist Houthi militia turned them into military bases.
The Deputy Governor of Hodeidah called on the international community to assume its responsibility by providing the necessary support to Hodeidah Governorate, opening humanitarian corridors, facilitating the delivery of aid, and removing the mines planted by the terrorist Houthi militias that pose a threat to the lives of civilians.
