A new Greek frigate has joined the European Union's naval fleet in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden, tasked with protecting and securing international shipping lanes in the region from Houthi attacks.
"We are pleased to welcome the Greek frigate HS SPETSAI and her crew who will play a crucial role in supporting the mission by contributing to freedom of navigation throughout the area of operations," the EU's Aspides naval mission said in a tweet on its X account on Monday.
Aspedas renewed its pledge to contribute to protecting freedom of navigation, the lives of seafarers and the world's common goods.
For more than 7 months, the Aspides mission has been leading defensive naval operations to secure international shipping traffic from attacks by the Iranian-backed Houthis in the Red Sea, the Gulf of Aden and surrounding waters.
