The Chairman of the Yemeni Presidential Leadership Council, Dr. Rashad Mohammed Al-Alimi, confirmed on Thursday that the failed attempt by the terrorist Houthi militias to target the Safer oil facility in Marib is the latest evidence that they are not a partner for peace.
This came during his meeting with Council member Sheikh Othman Majali today, Thursday, at Maashiq Palace in the interim capital, Aden, with the UN Special Envoy Hans Grundberg, according to the Yemeni News Agency "Saba".
Al-Alimi and Majali listened to a briefing from Grundberg on the results of his recent contacts at the national, regional and international levels, and his upcoming priorities for reducing escalation and reviving the political process that was overthrown by the terrorist Houthi militias with the support of the Iranian regime.
During the meeting, the UN envoy to the President expressed his sincere condolences for the victims of the floods and torrential rains that hit a number of Yemeni governorates in recent weeks.
He also expressed his deep appreciation and thanks to the Presidential Leadership Council and the government for their efforts to reduce escalation on all tracks and to deal responsibly with all initiatives to prevent the country from returning to the square of comprehensive war.
Al-Alimi renewed full support for the efforts of the United Nations to launch a comprehensive political process under the roadmap proposed by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and their good efforts to alleviate the living conditions exacerbated by the terrorist attacks of the Houthi militias on oil facilities and international shipping lines with the support of the Iranian regime.
The President stressed the importance of keeping local, regional and international attention focused on the practices of the Houthi militias, including their gross violations of human rights, and their continued arbitrary measures against the Yemeni Airlines Company, which would exacerbate the human suffering of the Yemeni people, and harm the company's assets and its navigational reputation.
The Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council pointed out that the failed terrorist attempt by the Houthi militias that targeted the Safer oil facility is the latest evidence that these militias are not a reliable partner for peace, but rather a project for destruction and devastation and for putting the interests of their supporters above the interests of the Yemeni people.
His Excellency also stressed the importance of the continued unity of the international community on the Yemeni issue, and listening to the aspirations of the Yemeni people for stability and peace in accordance with the relevant international legitimacy resolutions, especially Resolution 2216.
Earlier today, Grundberg said he "concluded a visit to Aden today, where he met with the Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council, Rashad Al-Alimi, and exchanged views on the urgent need for constructive dialogue aimed at de-escalation on a broader scale across Yemen."
Grundberg also expressed "concern about the situation of the 17 UN staff members detained (by the Houthis)," renewing "the call made by the UN Secretary-General (Antonio Guterres) for their immediate release."
