The International Federation of Journalists welcomed the integration of the occupational safety programme into the curricula of the two government universities in Saba and Al Mahrah in Yemen.
The union said in a statement, "The universities of Saba and Al Mahrah announced the integration of the occupational safety programme - developed by the International Federation of Journalists and UNESCO - into their academic programmes, becoming the first two government universities in Yemen to take this important step for media students."
“The International Federation of Journalists and UNESCO welcome this decision and encourage other Yemeni universities to take similar steps to ensure that journalists can work safely while covering news in the country,” he added.
The Federation expressed its hope that this programme would contribute to enhancing the professional safety standards of journalists in Yemen, allowing them to work in a safe environment while carrying out their vital role in conveying the truth.
The Yemeni Journalists Syndicate had organized a workshop in Cairo last year with the participation of heads of departments and professors of journalism and media from eight Yemeni universities on presenting the model curriculum for the safety of journalists to students of media colleges, which was developed under the supervision of UNESCO and the International Federation of Journalists.
