High-level discussions took place on the damage caused by the Houthi terrorist militia’s naval attacks on the region’s economies and peace in Yemen.
This came during the symposium held by the Center for Maritime Strategy at its headquarters in Arlington, Virginia, USA, which was titled (Red Sea Security: The Conflict between Israel and Hamas One Year Later).
The symposium, which featured a number of speakers, including US envoy to Yemen Timothy Lenderking, highlighted the major security implications for the greater Middle East, especially in the Red Sea.
According to the center, the discussions touched on US policy in the region, US naval operations in the Red Sea, and the commercial and economic impacts of Houthi attacks.
He pointed out that these high-level discussions are crucial to understanding the multifaceted challenges and broader implications for global security.
In the context, the US State Department's Bureau of Near Eastern Affairs said on its X platform account that the symposium in which the US envoy to Yemen participated had "a lively discussion on Red Sea security and efforts to protect freedom of navigation and livelihoods in Yemen from Houthi threats."
"The Houthi attacks are harming the region's economies and hopes for peace in Yemen," he added.

Since last November, the Iran-backed Houthi militia has been launching drone and missile attacks on cargo ships sailing in the Red Sea, Bab al-Mandab and the Gulf of Aden off the coast of Yemen, claiming that this is in support of Gaza, which has been subjected to a devastating Israeli war since October 7. These attacks have negatively affected shipping, trade and global supply chains.
As a result, the United States formed a military coalition led by it, and since the beginning of this year, it has been carrying out strikes alongside Britain that it says target the Houthis’ military capabilities, in response to their attacks on cargo ships, which the Houthis responded to with attacks on American and British naval ships, considering them “military targets.”
