The General Secretariat of the Arab Lawyers Union stressed the immunity of the defense, which must be respected; and that the legal profession is protected by the provisions of the Constitution and applicable laws, and that a lawyer may not, under any circumstances, be stopped from pleading because of the defenses and petitions he presents in any case, as is the case in all local, regional and international courts that give the lawyer a special status that includes freedom of expression, independence and immunity.

The General Secretariat of the Arab Lawyers Union demanded the cancellation of these unconstitutional and illegal amendments, which would result in imposing division within the single Yemeni nation, which has been witnessing a state of war for years and continuous attempts to divide the Republic of Yemen.

She considered this amendment to be one of the tools of division that the Arab Lawyers Union condemns.

Last Wednesday, the Houthi militia approved amendments to the Judicial Authority Law in Yemen, which allow it, under these amendments, to appoint people to the judiciary from outside the judiciary, and to imprison lawyers for three years and a text by order of the judge.

Only two days after the amendments, the Houthi militia issued a law, specifically last Saturday, which stipulated the appointment of people to the Supreme Judicial Council from outside the judiciary, in implementation of those Houthi amendments.

The Yemeni Judges Club had announced its categorical rejection of these Houthi amendments, stressing that they were a coup against the Yemeni judiciary, to restore the Imamate judicial system.

The Bar Association confirmed its clear and absolute rejection of these amendments, affirming that it will use all available means to stand against this decision, which lawyers considered a coup against political pluralism in Yemen, and an imposition of the regional and provincial system.
