The Health and Population Office in Taiz Governorate (southwest of Yemen) announced that the number of cholera and watery diarrhea cases in the governorate has risen to about 4,000 cases since the beginning of this year, including 34 deaths.

The office stated in its latest update on the status of the epidemic that has been sweeping the governorate for months, "The number of cases of cholera and watery diarrhea in the governorate has risen since the beginning of this year until today (Friday) to 3,950 cases of infection, including 679 laboratory-confirmed cases."

He added in a post on his Facebook page that the number of deaths associated with the disease rose to 34 cases during the same period.

For months, Yemen has been witnessing a new wave of cholera outbreaks, along with other outbreaks, amid the collapse of the public health system, exhausted by the war that has been going on for nearly a decade.

Cholera is an infectious waterborne disease caused by the bacterium Vibrio cholerae , which spreads rapidly through the population, primarily through the consumption of contaminated water or food. The disease manifests itself as uncontrollable diarrhea, which, if left untreated, can lead to severe dehydration or even death.
